The rivalry returns!
The Thurrock Hammers are delighted to announce they will renew their long standing rivalry with The Eastbourne Eagles, when both teams take to the track at Iwade on Sunday the 22nd of September (tapes up midday)
The clash, which will be ridden under Nora league rules, will see both clubs return to on track action as part of their respective campaigns to return speedway to both Thurrock and Sussex.
Hammers Director Mark Sexton commented
“The rivalry between the Hammers and the Eagles goes back decades, with the Good Friday clashes at The Raceway followed by the dash to Arlington for the reverse fixture in the evening living long in the mind.
Obviously when the late, great Jon Cook moved across to the Hammers from the Eagles, bringing Adam Shields with him as part of the rebuilding of the club, the level of intensity went up further.
We are delighted to both reignite that rivalry, and to also work in unison with both Michael Gray and David Gravelling, helping to both support and also raise awareness of their campaign to return speedway to Sussex.”
Following on from the recent Tunnel trophy success, the Hammers team for the Eagles clash will have a distinctive Essex feel, with confirmed riders to be announced in due course.
Once again, a range of sponsorship opportunities exist for any Essex based companies or people who wish to raise brand awareness, and support the team.
Full details, including both meeting and heat sponsorship, and the bronze, silver and gold fans packages will be provided in the next few weeks.
The Hammers would like to send their thanks to Michael and David at The Eagles for setting up the meeting, and to Iwade track owner Graham Arnold.
