SP2A Speedway on board with The Hammers

The Thurrock Hammers are delighted to welcome SP2A Speedway on board as Associate Sponsors ahead of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers Challenge match which takes place on the 30th June at West Row.

SP2A Speedway developed out of the successful Tipster service Speculate to Accumulate, the brainchild of businessman and Eastbourne Eagles Director Ian Jordan.

Along with providing tips for the Speedway GP series, SP2A speedway also provides a range of services and invaluable sponsorship for several talented British Speedway riders, including those with close Hammers connections; Alfie Bowtell, Jason Edwards and Lewi Kerr.

Hammers Director Ian Smalley commented:

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome SP2A Speedway on board with the Hammers as an Associate Sponsor.

Mark, Russell and I are so impressed with the passion and commitment that Ian Jordan has for speedway and his support for British riders, especially those in the early stages of their career.

Ian is innovative in his approach to increasing the awareness of speedway, such as the successful Community Programme at Eastbourne and is very positive about the future of the sport, something which aligns with our campaign to return The Hammers to Thurrock.

We can’t wait to help publicise SP2A Speedway and the great work Ian and his colleagues do for British Speedway.”

Ian Jordan commented:

“Having worked closely with Ian Smalley on the Eastbourne Website / Media project this season and having spoken to Russ and Mark, their passion for the Thurrock Hammers project is clear.

It has been great to see so many Hammers fans at Eastbourne and they and more are always welcome, but I and we fully understand that trips to Arlington as some do, and Kent as others do, can never replace your own Club and Team so I and SP2A Speedway are honoured and delighted to help in a small way.

Although our focus at SP2A Speedway (individually and collectively) has been very targeted so far, the medium and long term strategic aim and objective is to become less focused on one Team and to seek to help and assist other Clubs and Riders.

This includes those who may require help and support in areas where we have expertise such as Marketing / Commercial and Sponsorship / Business Strategy and Planning through to Mentoring; where they may require our help and assistance on an ad hoc or Consultancy basis. The Sponsorship assistance we are giving to Thurrock Hammers fits in perfectly with that goal and strategy.

My own associations to the Hammers may be obscured in time; but I actually acted as spanner man and driver for Bill Barrett for a few months when he rode in the Arena Essex debut season in 1984 (indeed he used my ex Bruce Penhall leathers on occasions) and recall some great times with the likes of Martin Goodwin, Peter Johns; Bob Humphries; Alan Sage and David Smart in that short period.

SP2A Speedway wish The Thurrock Hammers every success and hope to form closer ties in the coming weeks and months in support of their quest for a new and permanent home in Thurrock.”
