Council Backing for Speedway Return

Thurrock Councillors unanimously backed a motion proposed by Cllr John Kent that calls for ‘Thurrock Council to use the Local Plan to support the retention of Speedway in Thurrock and identify a new home for Grays Athletic, in the Grays area’ at a full Council meeting last night.

Hammers Director Mark Sexton commented “Thurrock Hammers have been liaising with Cllr Kent and other elected members over the last couple of years so we are thrilled that speedway’s place in the local sporting community has been acknowledged and that the Hammers contribution over the past 40 years has been recognised.

“This is an important step along the road and we look forward to exploring the opportunities that this new statement of intent provides”.
